Flan
Here's a classic recipe for flan, a delicious and creamy caramel custard dessert.
Classic Flan Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Caramel:- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 (12-ounce) can evaporated milk
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Caramel- In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water.
- Heat over medium heat, stirring gently until the sugar dissolves.
- Stop stirring and allow the mixture to boil without stirring until it turns a deep amber color (about 5-7 minutes).
- Quickly pour the caramel into a round flan mold or individual ramekins, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Be cautious, as the caramel will be extremely hot. Set aside to cool and harden.
- In a blender, combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Blend until well combined and smooth.
- Pour the flan mixture gently over the hardened caramel in the mold or ramekins.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Place the flan mold or ramekins inside a larger baking dish. Fill the baking dish with hot water until it reaches about halfway up the sides of the flan mold/ramekins. This water bath helps to cook the flan evenly.
- Bake for about 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove the flan from the oven and let it cool in the water bath for about 10 minutes.
- Carefully remove the flan from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.
- To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it. Place a plate on top of the mold and invert it to release the flan onto the plate, allowing the caramel to drizzle over the top.
