Flan

Flan

Here's a classic recipe for flan, a delicious and creamy caramel custard dessert.

Classic Flan Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Caramel:
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
For the Flan:
  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (12-ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Caramel
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar and water.
  2. Heat over medium heat, stirring gently until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Stop stirring and allow the mixture to boil without stirring until it turns a deep amber color (about 5-7 minutes).
  4. Quickly pour the caramel into a round flan mold or individual ramekins, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Be cautious, as the caramel will be extremely hot. Set aside to cool and harden.
Step 2: Prepare the Flan Mixture
  1. In a blender, combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Blend until well combined and smooth.
  2. Pour the flan mixture gently over the hardened caramel in the mold or ramekins.
Step 3: Bake the Flan
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place the flan mold or ramekins inside a larger baking dish. Fill the baking dish with hot water until it reaches about halfway up the sides of the flan mold/ramekins. This water bath helps to cook the flan evenly.
  3. Bake for about 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
Step 4: Cool and Serve
  1. Remove the flan from the oven and let it cool in the water bath for about 10 minutes.
  2. Carefully remove the flan from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.
  3. To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it. Place a plate on top of the mold and invert it to release the flan onto the plate, allowing the caramel to drizzle over the top.
Enjoy your delicious homemade flan!
